Quang Ninh is often known by the domestic and international community for its abundant and diverse marine resources. This place is considered to be the leading tourist center in Vietnam and owns many world-famous landscapes such as Ha Long Bay, Bai Chay, Co To Island, etc. In addition to the majestic natural heritage, the province is also the central development area of the mining industry in Vietnam has all contributed to making it an economic focal point of the country.
Recognizing the unique in geographical position, natural conditions as well as the potential to develop traditional values here, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) built the movement One Village One Product in 2005 and later officially evolved into One Commune One Product in 2013. The movement has helped develop organizational forms of production and business of traditional products, contributing to restructuring the economy towards endogenous development and adding value; reduce the rural population migration to the city, protect the environment and stabilize rural society.
With positive solutions, after 4 years of implementation, the OCOP program became Quang Ninh's own brand, affirming that the right direction contributes to restructuring agriculture and improving production value. As of 2017, the whole province had 215 businesses, cooperatives and production facilities participating in OCOP with a total registered capital of 250 billion VND, creating jobs for nearly 2,500 local employees. The province currently has 238 products, including 85 products with 3-5 stars.
Thanks to this strong development, the handicrafts here have been invested and produced more professionally. One of the first such high-quality products is Ba Che yellow flower tea (Pedal Forest Products Trading Joint Stock Company), an extremely popular traditional drink of Vietnam. In the past, yellow flower tea products were mainly packaged in simple plastic bags with the weight of 30g, 50g, 0.5kg, 1kg, the packaging is common material and non-standardized labels. After joining OCOP, the product has made great progress in packaging, labeling and product design with tea bags packed in clear methane boxes with different categories such as 10g, 20g, 30g, 40g, 50g. Besides, the tea jars are also packed in hard, luxurious, beautiful paper boxes, suitable for use as gifts. The packaging of all 3 types of dried cotton products, tea bags and dried leaves are in accordance with commercial commodity standards.
Product innovations such as packaging, labels and design innovations contribute to increased attractiveness, meeting a diverse range of customers, including the segment of affordable customers.
