About IOVOP

IOVOP, International One Village One Product Alliance, is an initiative created by the close co-operation between the Oita OVOP International Exchange Promotion Committee – the initiator of the One Village One Product movement in the world, Vietnam Handicraft Exporters Association (Vietcrat) and Vietnam Rural Industries Research and Development Institute (VIRI). Together with the OVOP member countries, the IOVOP will be organized into five regions: Africa, Asia, Europe, America and Oceania.

IOVOP is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that connects the talented and committed organizations and people globally to support for the sustainable development of the local communities through the promotion of One Village One Product.

IOVOP covers 5 different product groups: Handicrafts, foods, beverages, herbs and natural cosmetics, community-based tourism.

Our Vision

IOVOP vision is to achieve overall improvements in local economic activities and people’s welfare through global alliance and sustainable community empowerment. IOVOP official slogan is “Global connections for local impact”.

Our Mission

IOVOP mission is to support local communities to achieve sustainable economic growth by improving value chain of local unique products, maximizing the use of locally available resources to make them marketable nationally and internationally and to make local living environments more attractive to local residents and tourists

IOVOP’s working principles

Long-Term Partnerships: IOVOP builds lasting relationships with its partnered countries and the producers in the local communities, providing consistency and stability that allows them to plan ahead and improve their quality of life. IOVOP will not be concentrated in certain areas, but well distributed across regions.

Transparency and Accountability: IOVOP is transparent in its management and commercial relations. It is accountable to all its members and respects the sensitivity and confidentiality of commercial information supplied. IOVOP finds appropriate, participatory ways to involve members and producers in its decision-making processes. It ensures that relevant information is provided to all its partners.

Good Working Conditions: IOVOP ensures that producers in the local communities have safe and healthy places to work. Child labor is prohibited in an effort to keep kids in school and out of the workforce.

Design and Technical Collaboration: IOVOP updates and shares market trend with the producers in the local communities and teams up to create inventive modern designs that preserve traditional skills of craftsmanship passed down through generations. It also supports to improve the production techniques for different groups basing on the consistent principle of cleaner and environmental-friendly production practices

Eco-Conscious Commitment: IOVOP aims to keep the earth’s resources in balance, emphasizing the use of sustainable materials and applying the cleaner and environmental-friendly production practices.

A Fair Payment: IOVOP ensures the fair payment (fair prices, fair wages) for all OVOP groups. The payment is mutually agreed by all producers through dialogue and being taken into consideration of the market acceptance.

Commitment to Non Discrimination, Gender Equity and Women’s Economic Empowerment: IOVOP does not discriminate in working with people from any national origin, gender, religion… IOVOP maintains and develops local cultures. It partners with women and people who are often overlooked so all have a chance to thrive and create change for themselves, their families and their communities.
